Research direction

No files or tests are named. Start by locating the TypeScript worker entry point and existing process-management code, then build a worker-threads proof of concept and compare its preliminary performance with the current approach and planned multiple-worker-process direction.

Description

area:nodejs-functions investigate P3 performance

Tracking item for the investigation into worker threads, which have been introduced in Node 12. We're not sure how much this will help relative to some other changes we've been planning on making (multiple worker processes, principally).

Let's build a POC with worker threads and do some preliminary performance testing.
