Support for HTML tags

Is there support for html in the markdown, like html headers, paragraphs, etc? I noticed in one of the issues someone mentioned specifically support for html video tags. But didn't see anything in the docs about html in general.

I've created a sample project below where I'm trying to display the React Native Github README.MD, everything after the html is displaying correctly. For example this does not render for me:

    <h1 align="center">
      <a href="https://reactnative.dev/">
        React Native
      </a>
    </h1>

    <p align="center">
      <strong>Learn once, write anywhere:</strong><br>
      Build mobile apps with React.
    </p>

and I'm wondering if that is expected?
