While in a call, FaceTime ordinarily lowers all other apps'/devices' volume. As such, it also lowers the volume for the BackgroundMusic device.
Selecting BackgroundMusic as output device in FaceTime itself has no influence on this and just makes it so FaceTime ducks itself as well (ordinarily choosing a virtual/different output device restores regular volume levels for other apps/devices).
It doesn't seem like BM can control FaceTime's volume at all in my tests.
