描述

With #2049 merged, conky now supports -U option on Linux which makes it exit early if it detects another instance running. This feature requires a separate implementation for other platforms as they keep track of running processes differently.

I'm opening this tracking issue to track progress on support for other platforms Conky can currently run on.

Following platforms are currently supported:

  • Linux
  • BSD
    • DragonFly
    • FreeBSD
    • NetBSD
    • OpenBSD
  • Haiku
  • MacOS
  • Solaris

If you're interested, open a PR and mention this issue (just don't use "closes" phrasing) so it shows up here. Once support for all platforms is implemented this issue will be closed.

The issue requires implementing the U (single instance) option for DragonFly BSD, macOS, and Solaris, similar to the Linux implementation in PR #2049. Each platform needs a mechanism to detect a running instance, such as using pid files with fcntl locking, or platform specific APIs like named semaphores or Mach ports. The existing conky source code should be studied, especially the placement of the Linux implementation (likely in src/linux.cc or similar). For BSD, consider using sysctl or procfs; for macOS, use NSApplication or similar; for Solaris, use door calls or pidfile. The implementation should be coordinated with the existing build system to conditionally compile platform specific code.
