Project needs a more contributors

As the breakage in 1.7.0 (#1247) shows, this project is used globally.
While #1254 and #1255 will address preventing future breaks, the project needs a few more contributors that have the ability to address breaks or emergencies.

I don't expect these contributors to devote significant time to the project (thought that would be great). What is needed is people who are familiar with the project, who are willing to spend an hour or two per month to remain up-to-date, and who can share the responsibility for signing off on releases or major changes.
