描述

Would it be possible for the cartogram to scale features absolutely as well as relatively? Only the latter seems to occur at the moment that is, total area seems to preserved as U.S. states are scaled against one another. For example, with the dataset being presented in the attached image, the US should being nearly twice as large as it actually is, yet the cartogram is roughly the same size as the unmodified map. usef2010cartogram-scalingref

The current cartogram implementation in topogram likely computes relative scaling based on the total area of all features. To implement absolute scaling, modify the scaling logic to allow features to scale proportionally to a given value (e.g., population) without preserving total area. Look at the main cartogram function in the repository, possibly in index.js or similar, and check how the area of each feature is calculated and adjusted. Review D3.js documentation on path generation and area calculations. Consider adding a new parameter for scaling mode (relative vs absolute) and adjusting the algorithm accordingly.
