描述

AthenaDriver is currently accepting only IAM credentials (access key and secret key) to access Athena. Would it be possible to extend it to be able to work Kubernetes service account?

In our use case we operate cube.js in EKS cluster and we have preconfigured service account which we want to use to be able to connect and query Athena service.

Review the existing AthenaDriver source code in the cube repository (likely in packages/cubejs athena driver). Understand the current authentication flow using IAM credentials. Research AWS IAM roles for service accounts (IRSA) and how to assume a role using a service account token. Check if there are any existing issues or PRs related to this feature. The maintainers may have provided guidance in the issue comments (if any). Then design a solution that allows users to specify a service account name or auto detect EKS service account.
