mark book as read without specifying date

i am a fairly new user so i apologize if this is addressed; i checked all the issues under 'books' and hunted around but i think this is missing and hopefully a fairly simple enhancement.

during onboarding, i was offered the opportunity to add books to my shelves without having to list dates read. i've been clicking around, and i can't find a comparable option anywhere on the site. it is probably less of an issue for those who are marking current reading progress, etc, but the only path i can find is to add a 'finished reading' date to put the book on my read shelf and then go back and delete the date.

am i just missing this somewhere in the interface? if not, i'd love to be able to do it, even if it just meant resurfacing the interface from onboarding where i can search for books and simply add them to 'read'
