the focus is not set directly upon the boxes but one would need to press tab once. After closing of dialogs the focus should be on the invoking button,

Look at the JavaScript files handling modal dialogs (likely in the public/js/ directory). The focus management should ensure that when a modal opens, focus is set to the first focusable element. On close, focus should return to the element that triggered the modal. Refer to the discussion in issue #1794 for additional context. Check for existing ARIA attributes and ensure they are correctly applied.
