https://github.com/zilverline/react-tap-event-plugin is a widely used plugin which works around the 300ms tap-delay on mobile.

Could we apply onClick checks to onTouchTap as well? (For that matter, are there other common events to check? onTouch?)

Investigate the react tap event plugin library to understand how onTouchTap works. Look at the current code in the react a11y repository to see how onClick is handled. Determine if there are other touch events that should be considered and how to integrate them without breaking existing functionality.
