Version incompatibility

Reproduce the widget-loading failure with the listed JupyterLab, ipympl, and ipywidgets versions, then compare the behavior with issue #161. Start by inspecting the JupyterLab extension and widget registration reported in the issue. Done means the widget loads without the semver registration error.

Describe the issue

I seem to observe the incompatibiltiy similar to one previously reported in #161: widget model not found and JS console with an error. This is using the latest versions of everything as far as I can tell.

Uncaught (in promise) Error: Module jupyter-matplotlib, semver range ^0.11 is not registered as a widget module
