Research direction

Reproduce the failure by calling pcolormesh with the _cylproj and _pseudocyl projections, then inspect the shiftdata path used before contourf. Done means pcolormesh handles longitude bounds that define data rectangles without contourf choking or breaking.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

This is due to the fact that calling pcolormesh with either of these projections needs to perform a shiftdata function. But shiftdata assumes that the longitudes correspond 1-to-1 with the data, not that they define bounding rectangles around the data...

Thus contourf chokes and breaks.
