Start by reproducing the issue with Nemo open and a folder containing more than 1,000 images, then compare ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel before and after opening an image in Xviewer. Investigate the interaction between Nemo and Xviewer; done means opening an image no longer replaces the existing recently used entries.

Linux Mint 22.1
Nemo 6.4.5
Xviewer 3.4.8

In most circumstances the recently used list works as expected.

But I have image folders, where if I open a file, all my other recently used files are removed from the list and a total of 1,000 files from that folder get added to the list. It seems to be the last 1,000 files.

Guessing that the recently used list has a limit of 1,000 so more likely get added then bumped off the list.

I've checked the /home//.local/share/recently-used.xbel before an after, before looks as expected and after has only the new 1,000 files.

This seems to happen with any folder with a large number of images (>1,000) but not those with a small number. I tested with a folder with 3 images and it worked correctly. Ditto 22, 70, 160 and 340 images.

I've tested opening the same problem folder / files with Mirage and Gimp and they work as expected.

[PaulL] reported that the problem only happens when Nemo is open. Since I was using Nemo to locate I did not see this.
