Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by reading the linked go-libp2p issue 436 and clarify the intended peer-exchange behavior and scope; done would require an agreed protocol design and implementation criteria.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

We currently use mDNS to discover local peers but it would also be nice if we could have a peer exchange protocol for discovering even more local peers.

Motivation:

  • Relying on the global DHT to discover local peers is problematic (https://github.com/libp2p/go-libp2p/issues/436).
  • Ideally, we want to connect to all peers on the local network for UX reasons (if we're in the same room, we should be able to share files with each-other).
