One thing I do NOT like about the tabs is that I cannot deep-link an optional install guide

Examine how tabs are currently implemented (likely in Hugo templates or JavaScript) and add URL hash support so that clicking a tab updates the hash and loading a page with a hash activates the corresponding tab.
