Describe the bug
\newcommand isn't recognized and yields red text, even though it renders where used with the globalGroup turned on.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
$$
\newcommand{\chk}{\checkmark}
$$
$$
\chk
$$
Works, but the first block is rendered in red.
