The images on the front page weight 8.16MB out of 8.85MB for the whole page (with HTML, CSS and JS).
To measure, go to dev tools, disable cache (top right checkbox in firefox) and reload the page. The numbers are on the bottom left on firefox.
To reproduce, set connection speed to "Regular 4G", disable cache, refresh and see how the page takes seconds to fully render
