Description

Some great documentation has been added via https://github.com/firecracker-microvm/firecracker/pull/940. However the current documentation is referencing paid software (such as VMware). It would be nice to figure out an alternative free option when setting up local dev.

Research direction
Review the documentation added in PR #940 to identify where paid software is referenced. Research free alternatives such as QEMU/KVM or VirtualBox. Update the relevant documentation files in the repository to replace references to paid software with free alternatives. Ensure the instructions work with the chosen free VM software.
