if you short read the available bytes, there is a 1ms delay between reads as all reads now go via an async process and queue eg port.BytesToRead > 4

port.ReadByte(); // 1ms port.ReadByte(); // 1ms port.ReadByte(); // 1ms port.ReadByte();
