Description

As of Android 13, the READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission is no more and split into:

Type of media Permission to request
Images and photos READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
Videos READ_MEDIA_VIDEO
Audio files READ_MEDIA_AUDIO

Public API Changes

Not sure as of yet, but maybe 3 new permissions?

  • MediaReadImages
  • MediaReadAudio
  • MediaReadVideo

This will also have to be consolidated with the iOS permission of Media...

Intended Use-Case

More granular permissions. Especially since if this lands, then we have added all the media ones into READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: https://github.com/dotnet/maui/pull/12854

Research direction
Start by reviewing the Android documentation linked in the issue for granular media permissions. Examine the existing permission definitions in the .NET MAUI source code, particularly the `READ EXTERNAL STORAGE` permission added in PR #12854. Consider how to add three new permission constants (MediaReadImages, MediaReadVideo, MediaReadAudio) and how to consolidate them with the iOS 'Media' permission. The maintainer's input on the public API is needed, so ask clarifying questions about the desired design before implementing.
