The Ubuntu on WSL docs have a glossary:

https://documentation.ubuntu.com/wsl/en/latest/reference/glossary_up4w_components/

However, this glossary only refers to components of the Ubuntu Pro for WSL application.

The Ubuntu on WSL docs refer to the Ubuntu Pro for WSL app, but also many other things, such as:

  • WSL itself, which is maintained by Microsoft
  • Ubuntu, a Linux distribution that can run on Windows
  • Landscape, a remote management tool from Canonical that can manage Pro-attached Ubuntu on WSL instances
  • InTune, a different remote management tool used by Windows system adminstrators, which can also manage these instances

It could be beneficial to have a new glossary that includes these and other terms, which might not be familiar to users or could otherwise cause confusion, in addition to the Ubuntu Pro for WSL terms.

Doing this well requires some research into the terms we use in the documentation.

You might need to consider how best to structure the glossary to reveal the information in the most effective way. Currently, we do not use the glossary markup provided by Sphinx. Perhaps we should.

If you're interested, post a comment and we can discuss.
