Research direction
Start by reviewing the existing synchronized_value locking interface and the distinction between read-only and writing access described in the issue. Compare that interface with the requirements of a reader/writer lock, then determine whether a concrete API can support both modes. Done means the question has a decided design and its supported behavior or limitation is clearly documented.

Description
Does synchronized_value support Readers–writer lock? I could not find an interface to specify whether access to the lock-protected data will be read-only or whether it will write.
