Research direction

Start by tracing how the provided Observer receives computed dxdt and how the steppers store their current and previous derivatives. Clarify whether the intended result is Observer access or public getters for the dense stepper. Done means the chosen API is specified, implemented, and covered by tests for observing or retrieving both derivatives.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

It would be amazing if the computed derivative dxdt is exposed to the provided Observer.
Alternatively, for the steppers, if the current/previous derivative (which are private for the dense stepper) could be exposed via the getters.
