Description
Goal
Add a "Join Slack" button to the Agent Canvas interface to help users easily connect with the OpenHands community for support and engagement.
I can statement
As a user, I can easily find and click a button to join the OpenHands Slack community directly from the Agent Canvas interface.
Why this matters
Community engagement is critical for user success and product adoption:
- Users who need help can quickly find support by joining the Slack community
- It provides a low-friction way for users to self-identify and connect with the team
- Community members can share feedback, ask questions, and help each other
- It helps build a sense of community around Agent Canvas
This was discussed in team conversations, with agreement that a Slack link would be valuable for users who need assistance ("join the community, we are here to help").
Current state
Currently, there is no direct path from within the Agent Canvas interface for users to join or access the OpenHands Slack community. Users must find the Slack link through external documentation or the website.
Desired outcome
A visible, accessible "Join Slack" button or link within the Agent Canvas interface that:
- Is easy to find but not intrusive
- Directs users to the OpenHands Slack workspace invite link
- Fits naturally within the existing UI design
Discussion questions
-
Where should the button be placed?
- In the sidebar?
- In a help/support menu?
- In the settings page?
- In the footer or header?
- Multiple locations?
-
What should the button look like?
- Icon only (Slack logo)?
- Text with icon ("Join Slack" / "Get Help")?
- Part of a broader "Community" or "Help" section?
-
Should there be contextual prompts?
- Show the Slack option when users encounter errors?
- Include it in an onboarding flow?
-
What copy/messaging should accompany it?
- "Join our Slack community"
- "Get help from the community"
- "Connect with us on Slack"
Possible directions
- Add a Slack icon button in the sidebar footer area
- Include in a "Help" or "?" menu dropdown
- Add to the settings page under a "Community" or "Support" section
- Show as part of the welcome/onboarding experience
Out of scope
- Full community/support portal implementation
- Gated features or "upgrade" prompts (we want to avoid being overly salesy)
- Analytics tracking of button clicks (beyond basic telemetry)
Notes
This should be a simple, user-friendly addition that helps users find community support without feeling like a sales funnel. The goal is genuinely helping users, not capturing leads.
