Description

Feature request Show source actions in the file explorer context menu. This would allow triggering actions such as organize imports on file

I believe this would require a new activation event and a new way to present source actions (instead of using the editor right click context menu)

Alternatives

  • A generic source context menu could be contributed by an extension

  • Or individual extensions could contribute new items to the file explorer context menu

Research direction
Investigate how VS Code currently handles source actions and file explorer context menus. The issue suggests needing a new activation event and a new way to present source actions. Look at the source action implementation in the editor (e.g., src/vs/editor/contrib/smartSelect or similar). Also examine the file explorer context menu contributions in src/vs/platform/contextview or src/vs/workbench/contrib/files. Review existing extension API for source actions. No linked PRs currently, so this is fresh work.
